Fernando Savater was born
in San Sebastián, Guipúzcoa in 1947. He
is currently a Philosophy professor in the Complutense University of Madrid,
where he also studied his major. He is
the author of multiple philosophical, literary, and political essays, novels,
and screenplays, which have been translated into various languages. He has received, among others, the National
Prize for Essay (1982), the X Anagrama Prize for Essay and was a finalist for the Planeta Prize (1993) with the novel El
jardín de las dudas (The Garden of Doubts). He is the co-director of the magazine Claves de razón práctica
and is a frequent collaborator of the newspaper El País and other
publications. He has travelled
throughout Europe, Asia, and the American continent as a visiting professor and
lecturer.
