Willy Uribe was born in Bilbao in 1965. He is a writer and a photographer and his first work, Crónicas del salitre (Chronicles of Sea Water), came about from his surfing experiences and trips. In 2006 he published Nanga, his first novel, which was critically acclaimed. In 2008, Sé que mi padre decía (I Knew My Father Used to Say) was awarded the Silverio Cañada Prize and the Paper Lantern by the Bilbao Book Chamber.
