In Antíbula, a country dominated by a collectivist party, the death of the great actress Marivián, the face of the régime, is honored with state funerals and great dithyrambs in the press. One journalist is fired from his job for having written a somewhat critical obituary, and he sets out to unveil the true biography of such a seductive woman. What was hidden behind her trajectory of constant conquests and unstoppable success? How could one explain her movies, her relationship with the Nomenklatura, her double life? While he gathers testimonies and documents that serve as the pieces of a big puzzle, the narrator also sets out to clear up the death of his brother. He soon realizes that he must act carefully, as the People’s Police is watching him closely. La gran Marivián, a novel with an Orwellian feel, reconstructs –in an action-packed manner with a dose of humor- the life of an elusive and fascinating woman that would personify success and its threats, as it explores the manipulation of the past for the benefit of a police State.
